Everything you need to know about Deedee Deer class.
Deedee Deer Class 4 - 6 years old 5 days a week full day program.
Deedee Deer Class consists of two levels of students, third and fourth year students. Therefore, the English and math classes are also split between these groups. The curriculum and teachers’ instructions for students are more complicated at this level. Children develop an understanding of the proper use and differences of English and Japanese, which prepares them for bilingualism. The third year phonics program allows students to build on the signal system they have learned thus far to read texts and gain the ability to read and write fairly complex words. By the fourth year, phonics study has finished and students transition to reading chapter books. By the end of this class, students will have completed study equivalent to that of first grade elementary school in America. Foreign nationals have also been able to jump into the beginning of second grade at the end of their third year studies at Beanstalk. During this time there is a growth of independence and socialization in the children, and they want to talk to their teachers and friends in a way that expresses themselves. By introducing new reading books every morning, students learn new vocabulary and grammar structure that they can utilize in conversation, and their English ability rapidly progresses.
Morning Activities
Morning Activities revolve around two things; morning work and circle time. The focus is to give the students a chance to develop their skills individually. Morning workbooks are completed at the students pace, and give them a chance to both progress in difficult areas and excel in strong ones. Circle time also includes a chance for each student to speak, giving them a chance to express themselves in a group.
Academics
DeeDee Deer class is split into first and second year. First year students (DeeDee 1) put together all of the phonics they have studied so far to learn and recognize rules that help them become independent readers. Math focuses on introducing more complex ideas such as addition, subtraction, and measurements. Second years students (DeeDee 2) have finished phonics and learn basic grammar while actively practicing their reading skills. In math they build off of the basic concepts of the first year by solving more complicated math problems, such as addition with carrying over. Both the DeeDee 1 and DeeDee 2 classes learn a monthly theme together, including crafts, as well as weekly gym and music lessons.
Life Skills
Skills such as tooth brushing and table cleaning are now learned and expected daily tasks for each student. In DeeDee Deer class the new skills we focus on are things like tidying cubbies, stacking chairs, distributing snacks, and washing the floors, which are tasks that benefit the class as a whole.
